and at first, it’s a bit strange for dean; it’s not like he’s not used to men wanting to fuck him or something like that, but he usually doesn’t move in with them and smile all sweetly and kind when they come home after a long day

especially because castiel seldom even has the energy to make use of what dean can do best – having sex, that is. so they most often fall asleep after dean has forced castiel to eat the dinner dean specifically cooked for him and ushered him into bed, with cas simply spooning dean from behind and pressing a few slow kisses to his neck

(and when they do have sex, it’s often castiel who takes care of dean and gets him off with his mouth and fingers and then goes to sleep right after. he claims he enjoys the image of dean writhing on his tongue and coming all over himself much more than he enjoys getting off himself and rather spends his energy on this than getting an orgasm of his own)

and things get strange and tense for a while, and even though dean tries to pull back a bit, all he manages to do is draw closer and to accept every touch and kind word; hell, he even buries his face into cas’ neck one night and begs him not to leave him alone as much, and on top of this being the probably most humilitating moment of his life, it’s even worse when cas actually complies and starts leaving work early to spend more time with dean and to have more energy to pleasure him

it’s also cas who takes that last, terrifying step and kisses dean all sweetly and softly one day and tells him that he loves him, has done so for a long time already

and that’s the last day they’re being pretend boyfriends

and the first they become real ones
